課程概述

The second term of Sophomore English Composition will follow the foundation of decisions-making in the planning, drafting, and revising process of writing taught and practiced in the first term. The course will continue to study the fundamental strategies of English rhetoric: illustration, classification, comparison and contrast, process analysis, cause-and-effect analysis, and, as a closure, argumentation, which will be focused in the final part of the course to strengthen students’ grasp of the deductive and inductive reasoning in writing.

The research process is also an important part of the second term of this course. Students will be introduced the fundamental skills of researching, which include recording, evaluating and interpreting findings, and documenting the sources. They will learn and practice the MLA documentation style through the writing of a research paper to be submitted at the end of the term.
 

課程目標
At the end of the course, students are expected to be able to apply the fundamental strategies of English rhetoric in writing a college essay with worthwhile content, sensible organization, and readable style. They will also learn to formulate research questions; to explore primary and secondary sources; to record, summarize, and document their findings in correct MLA documentation style; and, eventually, to write and present a complete research paper. 
課程要求
No mid-term or final exam will be given. You will be graded according to your attendance, class performance, writing exercises, and research paper.
